BASS SUMMIT

This concert will be a tribute to Ivars Galenieks, a double bassist and composer who passed away last year and who has been a great influence on Latvian jazz for many years. Ivars’ lush and convincing double bass tone has been heard playing with Frank Foster, Dennis Rowland, the Latvian Radio Big Band, the Egils Straume Trio, the Raimonds Raubiško Trio and other masters. This concert will feature pieces from Ivars Galenieks’ vinyl record Trans-Siberian Express (Transsibīrijas ekspresis), recorded exactly 40 years ago – in 1985 – at the Latvian Radio Studio 1.

"Trans-Siberian Express was a work created during my active jazz routine. I had the opportunity to play with various musicians, participated in festivals, and had my own ideas that I wanted to record. The musicians I had already played with had come to a jazz festival in Riga, and the recording was made instantly.
